Origin & classification

Candida (CD-1) was developed by Medical Marijuana Genetics with the aim of combining high CBD levels with an exceptionally low THC content. Its exact parentage is not documented in the available information. We classify Candida (CD-1) as a sativa-dominant, photoperiodic strain whose profile is defined much more by its cannabinoid ratio than by a breeding goal focused on intoxication. It also placed in a CBD category at the 2017 Spannabis Champions Cup.

Aroma & flavour

CBD is reported in a broad range of 11 to 20 percent, while THC typically ranges from around 0.5 to under one percent. Both values can vary depending on phenotype, cultivation, harvest timing and laboratory methods. The figures should therefore not be understood as a guarantee for individual plant material. Nevertheless, the ratio explains the recurring description of a gentle profile with a comparatively subtle THC effect.

Terpene profile

Reported sensations include relaxation, calmness and occasionally a slightly sleepy physical side, while the mind is often described as clear. These are experiential observations, not medical claims or guaranteed effects. Individual responses may vary. Aromatically, Candida (CD-1) remains straightforward: citrus, and lemon in particular, form the clearly documented notes. The strain therefore stands out less through a complex dessert or gas profile than through fresh, bright accents.

Effect tendency

Botanically, two distinctly different phenotypes are known. The indica-like expression grows shorter and bushier, develops denser flowers and can produce higher yields. The sativa-like phenotype grows taller, stretches more and requires greater attention; its flowers are lighter and looser. Somewhat higher CBD levels are reported for this phenotype in some cases, but this too is a phenotype-related observation and not a reliable measurement for every plant.

Cannabinoids, flowering & appearance

The flowering time is approximately nine weeks. Outdoors, harvest is listed as taking place from late September to October, depending on the climate. Both yield and plant height are in the medium range, although the two growth forms can cause considerable differences. Candida (CD-1) is considered moderately difficult to grow. Its profile is therefore particularly well defined: lemon-forward aromas, two recognisable growth forms and a CBD-rich cannabinoid ratio with very low THC. We do not adopt medical use claims, as a strain profile cannot demonstrate clinical efficacy.
