Origin & classification
The documented history of Chemdog begins at a Grateful Dead concert at the Deer Creek Amphitheatre. There, Joebrand, also known as Wonkanobe, and Pbud are said to have sold high-quality cannabis to the buyer later known as Chemdog. After another shipment, he reportedly found 13 seeds in one of the two ounces. This account has been handed down in detail, but remains a historical source narrative rather than proof of genetic ancestry.
Aroma & flavour
According to the account, Chemdog germinated four of these seeds in 1991. One male specimen was removed; the three female plants were initially named Chemdog, Chemdog A and Chemdog B. The first two later became known as ’91 Chemdog and Chemdog’s Sister. In 2001, three more seeds followed, designated C, D and E. E did not germinate, C was discarded, and D was retained as the selected plant.
Terpene profile
In 2006, Chemdog and Joebrand met again. Joebrand received four of the last six seeds, from which phenotypes one through four emerged. He considered number four the closest approximation to the original material and therefore gave it the nickname “Reunion Pheno”. This selection history explains the numerous names within the family, but does not replace a confirmed lineage: the only recorded origin is “Dogbud bagseed”.
Typical effects
Sensorically, the brief supplementary source mentions a loud diesel-skunk aroma and an earthy, hashy flavour. The profile is also described as pungent and more sativa-oriented. Differentiated individual effects are not documented, so no euphoria, relaxation or other characteristics are added. Cannabinoid values and terpenes are likewise not documented.
Cannabinoids, flowering & appearance
The supplementary source gives nine to ten weeks for flowering, while the master data specifies ten to eleven weeks. This discrepancy must be checked against the relevant version. The detailed historical source contains no reliable information on growth, yield or cultivation conditions. A later legal event from 2011 is part of the breeder’s biography, but does not describe a strain characteristic and therefore remains outside the actual profile. Here, Chemdog is primarily understood as a historical seed family with several name-documented selections and a sharp diesel-skunk aromatic core.
