Zinkmangel zeigt sich vor allem im frischen Wuchs. Typisch sind sehr helle junge Blätter, verkürzte Internodien, ein gedrungener, unruhiger Wuchs und teils deformierte neue Blattpaare. Die Pflanze wirkt oben gehemmt, ohne dass das Problem zuerst im alten Laub startet. Entscheidend für die Einordnung ist deshalb der obere Pflanzenbereich: Wenn Neuwuchs blass, klein und ungleichmäßig nachkommt, passt das Bild deutlich eher zu einem Zinkproblem im Wurzelraum als zu einem mobilen Mangel aus dem unteren Blattwerk.

Usually, a substrate pH that is too high (above 7.0) makes zinc insoluble. Massive over-fertilization with phosphorus can also block zinc uptake.

What is often really behind it

A deficiency is often a problem of availability. A visible deficiency does not automatically mean that this nutrient is absent in the substrate. Often, absorption in the root zone is disrupted by pH fluctuations, excessive moisture, cold, or an unstable soil environment. Especially in the living soil approach, it is therefore not about hastily addressing symptoms with more fertilizer, but about carefully assessing the availability and balance in the soil.

The right treatment

Zinc controls hormone production and the vertical growth of your cannabis plants. If the shoot tips appear stunted, quick action is required.

Step one is pH correction:
Rinse your medium with a light nutrient solution adjusted to pH 6.0 (soil) or pH 5.5 (coco) to make bound zinc available again. Since cannabis requires very small amounts of zinc, a correct pH adjustment is often enough to resolve the deficiency.

In severe cases, a micronutrient supplement containing chelated zinc can help.
Avoid using PK boosters during the correction phase, as the phosphorus they contain could inhibit zinc uptake again. After successful treatment, new growth will show longer stems and normally shaped leaf fingers.

Note that the affected, stunted leaves will not fully recover.
