Big Band in detail
Origins & classification
Big Band was developed by Kannabia Seeds with the aim of achieving high yield potential without compromising on flavour. The starting point was an aromatically selected Bubblegum crossed with a Chronic male. This early combination had Bubblegum characteristics, a fermented aftertaste and a typical indica structure with a large main stem and few lower side branches.
Aroma & flavour
According to the detailed breeder description, this first version was subsequently further developed with a fruit-forward Black-Domina mother. The aim was to produce more lower branching, a stronger indica influence, rapid flowering and improvements in yield and flavour. The master data, by contrast, lists only Bubble Gum × Chronic. This abbreviated form therefore does not fully reflect the later breeding stage described.
Terpene profile
The aroma of the renewed version is described as zesty strawberry and lemon. According to the source, the finish is reminiscent of fruit gummies. The early Bubblegum-Chronic combination also adds a fermented nuance. As no individual terpenes are documented, this sensory description should not be converted into a supposedly precise terpene profile.
Effect tendency
During growth, Big Band displays pronounced vitality and stretch without, according to the supplier, becoming extremely tall. Outdoor plants are said to reach up to around 1.80 metres. Heavy side branches and the large central flower cluster may require support. The source also describes the strain as robust and resistant to pests; this breeder-related assessment remains dependent on the actual cultivation conditions.
Cannabinoids, flowering & appearance
The flowers are said to be compact and to have a favourable calyx-to-leaf ratio. Strong resin production is described from the fourth flowering week onward. For the indoor cycle, the detailed source states 58 to 61 days, consistent with the approximate figure of eight to nine weeks. Outdoors, harvesting is placed towards the end of September.
Further classification
According to the description, the effect profile begins deeply and heavily before transitioning into relaxation. The master data summarises it as potent and heavy. No medical or stress-related claims can be derived from this. There is also historical uncertainty: before a renewal around 2010 or 2011, Big Band was reportedly described as a more sativa-influenced Bubble Gum cross with “California Desert Sativa”. This older version should be clearly distinguished from the current description.
