Wizard Trees

Wizard Trees is the Los Angeles brand founded by Scott Lane. It combines the selection of distinctive plants with its own genetics programme. RS11 brought wider attention to its collaboration with DEO Farms and Doja. Lines such as Studio 54, Zangria and Black Magic now run through the catalogue, showing how related cultivars follow different genetic paths.

Breeder profile

Wizard Trees began in Los Angeles with a focus on selected cannabis flower. Scott developed it into a brand centred on individual plants and their aroma profiles. That work led to Wizard Trees Genetics. The programme includes its own crosses and collaboration with other breeders. Its history therefore brings together flower production, the selection of individual plants and the development of new genetic lines.

RS11 illustrates these different roles. The Rainbow Sherbert breeding work comes from DEO Farms, led by Deep East. Wizard Trees contributed to selection and cultivation, while Doja helped distribute the release. RS11 is therefore part of the history of all three names. Work on Zoap also connects Wizard Trees with Deep East. A joint release does not, by itself, identify who bred the original cross.

Recurring parent lines provide a way to read the present catalogue. The US genetics programme has dedicated collections for RS11, Studio 54 and Zangria, among others. These names refer both to specific foundation plants and to families of later crosses. A Studio 54 cross is consequently a separate cultivar with an additional parent. It is not automatically identical to the original Studio 54 selection.

Zangria was bred by Fiya Farmer and is an important foundation line in the Wizard Trees programme. British Delight pairs it with Biscotti, while Zangbanger pairs it with Sherbanger. Tea Party combines Tea Time with Zangria. Their shared parent makes these releases related. Their respective second parents explain why they retain separate names and pedigrees. Here, Zangria identifies their common ancestry rather than an interchangeable cultivar.

Black Magic is another line that appears across several releases. Voodoo combines Wizzy and Black Magic. Black Light pairs Black Magic with Limelight. Limelight, in turn, combines Gelonade with Zangria. Black Light therefore brings the Black Magic and Zangria families together. This example shows how different catalogue collections can connect across several generations.

The programme also includes named clone selections. Black Magic and Tide are listed as Clone Only in the main catalogue. That designation refers to a particular plant maintained through vegetative propagation. A later seed cross using that plant is a separate release. Exact identity therefore depends on the parent line, any selection number and designations such as S1, as well as the cultivar name. These details distinguish a foundation selection from its descendants.
