California Indica

California Indica by Sensi Seeds combines a high-yielding California Orange mother with the Afghan-influenced Hash-Plant line of the house. Bitter orange, sweet-and-spicy citrus peel and a deep hashish note define the aroma. According to the breeder, the compact, resin-rich plant flowers for 45 to 50 days and is classified as 65 percent Indica.

Editorial profile

California Indica in detail

Origin & classification

Sensi Seeds developed California Indica from an exceptionally high-yielding California Orange mother and an Afghan father that had already been used for the house’s Hash-Plant line. The source describes this father more precisely as part of a 50/50 cross of Hash Plant and Northern Lights #1. The breeding objective was to combine the weight, speed and more compact structure of the Afghan side with the characteristic citrus aroma of the Orange line.

Aroma & flavour

According to the breeder, the Orange mother used displayed mixed, rather more sativa-influenced traits. Historical California Orange lines were cultivated outdoors on the American West Coast for many years and produced different phenotypes. They were said to share numerous orange-coloured flower hairs and a sweet-and-spicy citrus aroma. At the same time, the source warns against broadly classifying every strain with orange-coloured hairs as a genuine Orange Bud.

Terpene profile

According to Sensi Seeds, the Afghan-influenced father line reduced the longer flowering period and tendency towards more open flowers. The result is described as solid, compact and fast. The breeder-based classification gives 35 percent Sativa and 65 percent Indica. Flowering is stated as 45 to 50 days, or approximately six to seven weeks. Growing conditions and phenotype may influence this period.

Effect tendency

The mother’s fruit-peel note remained present in the aroma. Particularly distinctive is a sweet-and-spicy, slightly bitter orange that, in some individuals, combines with the resinous hashish flavour of the father line. The source vividly compares this combination to orange liqueur and dark chocolate. The profile contains no analytically determined terpenes, so these impressions should not be attributed to specific molecules.

Cannabinoids, flowering & appearance

Both parent sides are said to contribute to a dense resin coating on the flowers and small sugar leaves. The source describes sufficient resin for sifted or hand-rolled hashish preparations, without specifying a concrete yield. The effect is presented as a combination of the brighter, sunnier high of the Orange side and a deeper Afghan body sensation.

Further classification

The standardised lineage “California Orange × Hash Plant” is a useful abbreviation, but it leaves out the more precise breeder-based origin of the father from Hash Plant and Northern Lights #1. THC, CBD and yield figures are not available. The profile therefore draws on the breeding history, short flowering period, compact structure, resin richness and distinctive bitter-orange-hashish aroma.
