Fruity Jack was created by Philosopher Seeds from a female Respect #13 and a reversed male selection of Jack the Ripper #1. Respect #13 is described as the winner of Spannabis 2012; the Jack the Ripper selection was intended to contribute Sativa traits, Haze character and a relatively short flowering period. The strain is also known as Jack El Frutero and is described as having a ratio of 70 percent Sativa to 30 percent Indica.

The breeder source describes a vigorous plant with little leaf mass, which is intended to make post-harvest processing of the flowers easier.
