for gentle nitrogen and vibrant soil structure in Living Soil

Was dieser Nährstoff macht

Sheep wool pellets are compressed fertilizer pellets made from sheep wool. In Living Soil they are especially interesting because they not only supply nutrients but also can store water thanks to their structure and help loosen the soil. Manufacturer sources describe sheep wool as an organic long-term fertilizer with good water-retention capacity as well as both immediate and long-term effects, while horticultural sources additionally point to its water-absorption (swelling) effect and the improvement of soil structure.

For growers, sheep wool is particularly interesting as a gentle nitrogen input. According to COMPO, unwashed raw wool mainly contains nitrogen and potassium, as well as sulfur, phosphate and magnesium. At the same time, a large part of the wool consists of keratin, which is gradually broken down by soil organisms. This causes the nutrients to be released slowly, making sheep wool pellets in Living Soil more of a building and long-term input than a quick correction.

Exactly for this reason, sheep wool pellets are particularly well suited to Reuse Soil, larger pots, beds, raised beds and generally setups where soil life, water balance and long-term supply play a greater role than immediate effects. They can also work in small pots, but their structural benefits and slower release usually only really show their strengths in more stable, biologically active systems.

Some users simply search for sheep wool as fertilizer or sheep wool fertilizer. For your finder, however, I would clearly list sheep wool pellets as the main entry, because this form is the one most often searched for and used as a single raw material in gardening and grow contexts. From a technical standpoint, sheep wool pellets therefore primarily represent gentle nitrogen supply, water retention, soil loosening and long-term microbial breakdown.

Anwendung

Dosierung

Use sheep wool pellets in Living Soil rather moderately and proactively. This raw material is not a quick fix, but works best as an organic long-term input that works with soil life, moisture, and time. It is particularly useful when mixing, refreshing reuse soil, or as an early top-dress in larger volumes.

Zeitpunkt und Einsatz

Most useful before planting, when building new living soil mixes, or when reconditioning soil. In ongoing cycles, sheep's wool pellets are more suitable for early growth phases than for late hectic corrections, because the release is gradual through biodegradation.

Worauf du achten solltest

Sinnvolle Kombinationen

Sheep wool pellets pair well with compost, worm castings, kelp, mild organic base inputs, and humus-rich reuse soil mixes. They are particularly suitable for setups where water retention and soil structure are to be improved in addition to nitrogen. Combining them with many other strong nitrogen sources in a small space is less advisable if it makes the mixture unnecessarily heavy or too growth-heavy.

Typische Fehler

A common mistake is to treat sheep wool pellets like a fast-acting fertilizer. However, their strength lies precisely in their slow release via keratin degradation and in improving water balance and soil structure. Also typical is underestimating the swelling effect and the time factor: sheep's wool does not work immediately, but over weeks and months in interaction with soil life.
