⚠️ Verwechslungsgefahr

Sulfur deficiency is often confused with nitrogen deficiency. The main difference: sulfur deficiency starts in the young leaves at the top, or affects the entire plant simultaneously, whereas nitrogen deficiency always starts at the bottom. The leaves turn light green to yellow, and the undersides of the leaves may show reddish discoloration.

Ursachenforschung: Was ist passiert?

Rare in soil cultures, more common in hydroponics with incomplete fertilizers. A pH value that is too high also blocks sulfur uptake.

Systemische Einordnung

What is often really behind it

A deficiency is often a problem of availability. A visible deficiency does not automatically mean that this nutrient is absent in the substrate. Often, absorption in the root zone is disrupted by pH fluctuations, excessive moisture, cold, or an unstable soil environment. Especially in the living soil approach, it is therefore not about hastily addressing symptoms with more fertilizer, but about carefully assessing the availability and balance in the soil.

The right treatment

Sulfur is essential for the formation of amino acids and thus for the entire protein structure of your cannabis plant. Sulfur also plays a key role in the formation of terpenes and cannabinoids – a deficiency therefore directly diminishes the quality of your harvest.

To remedy this, you should use Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate), as it provides both magnesium and sulfur. Mix approx. 1-2 grams of Epsom salt per 5 liters of irrigation water.
Ensure that your base fertilizer contains all secondary nutrients. For organic cultivation, adding compost or elemental sulfur is a long-term solution.

As with most micronutrients, a correct pH value of 6.2 to 6.7 is the best insurance here. Since sulfur is not very mobile in the plant, the already yellowed tips will only recover slowly; when observing, focus on the fresh new growth after treatment.
