Septoria is often confused with calcium, magnesium, or general leaf spot stress. The difference: the spots often begin on older, inner, or lower leaves in moister zones of the plant stand and often show yellowish halos. Unlike calcium deficiency, Septoria does not primarily affect fresh new growth. Unlike thrips, the silvery feeding traces and black frass are usually absent. Unlike potassium deficiency, the burned margin is not the primary symptom; rather, the speckled leaf appearance is more prominent.
